WELCOME TO COVENANT FELLOWSHIP: Semper Reformanda
"Always Being Reformed" By the Holy Spirit
We are a particular congregation of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Greensboro, NC that is part of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian denomination. Our first and final authority is the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament. We recognize our need to grow in and through our understanding of Scripture. We also recognize and rejoice in God's historical work of creating and sustaining His people. As a result we believe that the Westminster Confession of Faith, along with its Shorter and Larger Catechism, is the best summary statement ever penned by redeemed sinners of the system of doctrine mandated by Scripture. Still, while committed to this confessional understanding we are not trying to simply recreate 17th century worship in all its particular features. Nor do we seek strict uniformity among congregational members on all points of belief. Obviously, there are many realities of our 21st century lives that were not a part of the lives of the authors of the Westminster Confession of Faith. Our desire is to do what we believe all faithful Christians have desired to do throughout history--confess and believe the substance of biblical truth and put it into practice within our time and place. As the 20th century apologist and evangelist Francis Schaeffer said, there is both form and freedom in the Christian faith.
Because Jesus fulfills his covenant with his bride, the Church, and with his creation, we seek obedience to him in all of life, not just some privatized aspects of it. We are keenly aware of and wrestling against the various ways in which the cherished principles of and practices in American culture lead many confessing Christians and churches to accomodate their beliefs and practices to that culture. We meet on Sunday mornings at Bur-Mil Park Clubhouse and in each others’ homes in small fellowship groups throughout the week. After the Sunday morning sermon, we have an open time for sharing reflections, praises, and needs, and then we enjoy a meal together. This time of fellowship allows us to minister to one another in prayer, and biblical counsel and encouragement. Our concern is not how you dress, but whether you are dressed in the righteous robes of the Lord Jesus and understand what this means for your life among God's people. We always plan enough food for visitors, so please join us for lunch.
Because Jesus is Lord of all creation, and has created the biological family as the primary, though not exclusive, context in which all obedience to him is demonstrated, and through which his kingdom is built, we do not seek to organize church life around programs that pull us away from our duties to our families. Single adults are recognized as our brothers and sisters who have greater freedom to bless the whole church family with their spiritual gifts--and they do! Because we have met at Bur-Mil Park Clubhouse for about twelve years, we have enjoyed not having the financial pressures of a building mortgage or facility management. Our emphasis is truly upon our bearing one another's burdens so that we can fufill the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2) |
